That first bite was like heaven on earth. I forgot about all of the bad Thai food I'd been eating for the past 2 months and savored the beautiful blend of flavors. Now, this is what it's all about! The roll was good as well, but the Pad Kee Mao was to die for. The portion was a bit small so it was disappointing when I finished the plate - I was soooo tempted to order another to-go. Bai liang phat khai – Bai liang is native to southern of Thailand and Indonesia. It is widely used in Thai and Indonesian cuisine. Bai liang tastes sweet and a bit greasy, not rank and bitter like other species. It is commonly eaten as a vegetable with chili sauce and used to make a variety of dishes such as stir-fry with red curry. A popular dish is stir-fried with eggs called Bai liang phat khai. Yum-Yum

Non-glutinous rice (Oryza sativa) is called khao chao (lit., "royal rice"). One type, which is indigenous to Thailand, is the highly prized, sweet-smelling jasmine rice (khao hom mali). This naturally aromatic long-grained rice grows in abundance in the patchwork of paddy fields that blanket Thailand's central plains. Once the rice is steamed or cooked, it is called khao suai (lit., "beautiful rice"). Non-glutinous rice is used for making fried rice dishes, and for congee, of which there are three main varieties: khao tom (a thin rice soup, most often with minced pork or fish), khao tom kui (a thick, unflavored rice porridge that is served with side dishes), or chok (a thick rice porridge that is flavored with broth and minced meat). San Franciscans tend to be weary (okay, more than weary) of chains, but Osha Thai isn’t really that type of chain -- think of it as the Thai Tacolicious. Osha started in humble surroundings (check out the super-retro chop suey-era sign at the TenderNob original), then sprouted to seven locations all with downright identical-looking West Hollywood-hip sushi bar/nightclub atmospheres.

Namphrik pla – fish chili sauce – Namphrik pla or fish chili sauce can be a little thick or thin depending on the amount of liquid from the boiling fish one puts in it. Grilled fish can be used instead of boiled fish. Any kinds of fresh chilies can be used from mild to the hottest kinds to suit one's taste. It goes well with water clover, tips of lead tree greens, or crispy eggplant.[63]

Khao soi – curried noodle soup enriched with coconut milk (traditionally a novel ingredient in the cooking traditions of northern Thailand), garnished with crispy fried wheat noodles, and served with pickled cabbage, lime, a chili paste, and raw shallots on the side. Arguably Chiang Mai's most iconic dish, it was originally a dish of the Chin Haw, Chinese-Muslim traders from Yunnan Province in China. Northern Thai khao soi is different from the Lao version. Besides kaffir lime leaves, several other tree leaves are used in Thai cuisine such as cha-om, the young feathery leaves of the Acacia pennata tree. These leaves can be cooked in omelettes, soups and curries or eaten raw in northern Thai salads. Banana leaves are often used as packaging for ready-made food or as steamer cups such as in ho mok pla, a spicy steamed pâté or soufflé made with fish and coconut milk. Banana flowers are also used in Thai salads or as a vegetable ingredient for certain curries. The leaves and flowers of the neem tree (sadao) are also eaten blanched. Phak lueat (leaves from the Ficus virens) are cooked in curries, and bai makok (from the Spondias mombin) can be eaten raw with a chili paste. Restaurant Hunter - Frankly Thai Review
Finally when we do get acknowledged we're asked if we had a reservation. Nope. Because there's no sign anywhere that indicates you need a reservation. They say they can't accommodate walk ins and are only taking reservations. I ask if I can get one for later and no. They're done taking them for the night (it's 6:30 PM). Pretty interesting considering, like I said, the restaurant was half empty and there were at least 5 staff members working. Crouch End
Fit to Be Thai'd is truly a great place. The atmosphere is fun, relaxed and a great place to be after a long day of hitting the slopes. The service is not great. You should expect waiting over an hour for your meal, but that is the charm of this place. You learn to relax and enjoy time with your family. You really get a taste of the laid back Vermont vibe. The organization and effectiveness of Fit to be Thai'd is probably a 3/10, and things are always a big chaotic. But hey, that's the charm, right?! Anyways, the food is really good! Great food, good prices, good portions! I constantly come back here because of the delicious food and enjoyable atmosphere. I know this review may be confusing, but just know this: Fit to be Thai'd is not fancy, organized or elegant- but it's amusing, entertaining and honestly just a great place to enjoy a meal with your loved ones. Kaeng ranchuan แกงรัญจวน Central Kaeng ranchuan is a beef curry and fermented shrimp paste chili sauce, similar to tom yam. It was created by chef in royal households from the leftovers and turned in new dish by combining pieces of meat and leftover sauce especially nam phrik kapi. The most popular of all dip is nam phrik kapi, a very delicious sauce of Thailand because this sauce can be eaten with everything. Many Thai chefs reformed kaeng ranchuan to restaurants after it was mentioned by culinary authority ML Nueang Ninrat, in a memoir explaining her life during the reign of King Rama V and VI. The people misunderstand about the origin and preparation of kaeng ranchuan because of famous TV series that do the wrong method of this dish and make people remember that this is the real kaeng ranchuan preparation method. So, the real kaeng ranchuan is in ML Ninrat book “Life in the Palace” she tells how her grandmother, the princess Sabai Ninrat created this dish. At the end of dinner there was leftovers so she asked her assistant to separate the meat from chili and basil. Then, she mixed it into a broth and added leftover of Nam prhrik kapi, so this is called the real kaeng ranchuan.

PLEASE!!! Please! Please! Tip the delivery guy yourself instead of including it in your credit card bill. I used to that, and one day I asked the delivery guy if they receive the tip. He said that they don't ever receive it, and said there was nothing they could do. I felt really, really bad for them because I know this is how they make a living. And please let's be conscientious of this fact and not offend them with 25 c, 50 cents of your pocket change. These poor guys go out out there under inclement weather conditions, risking getting sick and risking their very lives, yet, most of them deliver your food with a smile. Many of them have a family to feed and provide with. My heart goes out to them. Thanks.

What can you get for $2.50 in the Tenderloin these days? Okay, we’re not going there, but for just 10 quarters you can get a bowl of flat-out awesome off-menu boat noodles with a deeply layered beef broth from beef blood and bones, garnished with pork cracklings at Zen Yai Thai. It's like a Peckenpaugh Western film version of a noodle soup, and buoyant because it's sold from boats back in Thailand. Barbecue is the other signature of Zen Yai -- not usually a strong point at Tenderloin Thai spots, but here it’s obligatory. Also worth getting: shrimp spring rolls and the house tom yum soup -- just know though, those cost more than $3.

This Thai green curry recipe features tender, thinly-sliced pieces of beef or bison simmered together with eggplant and red pepper. This curry is sumptuous and wonderful on a chilly night. I went here on a Wednesday evening. Granted it was during Presidents Day weekend but when we walked in, the restaurant was half empty. Yay! But as we stood by the entrance for 10 minutes, no one acknowledged our existence even though there was a sign on the hostess table that said "Please wait to be seated". More people are starting to line up. I see a waitress scrambling from table to table looking flustered. Another waiter is walking around frantically. Then a customer from the far side of the restaurant goes up to the waitress and complains that they ordered dumplings before the other tables and still haven't received them. The customer wasn't overtly rude. The waitress then goes to the manager (?) and vents about the said customer. OK.

We started with a couple sushi rolls... based on pictures I had seen posted on yelp, I expected better presentation (as most of the sushi dishes had colorful/cut fruit/veggies as garnish and many event had a flower but ours was simply our sushi; no presentation to impress). We had a SPICY TUNA ROLL which surprised me to only include 6 pieces but were good. Also shared a RAINBOW ROLL; the fish tasted very fresh. Even though taste was great and the freshness of the fish was excellent, I thought the rice was a bit loose (but not falling apart).

Although many of the exotic fruits of Thailand may have been sometimes unavailable in Western countries, Asian markets now import such fruits as rambutan and lychees. In Thailand one can find papaya, jackfruit, mango, mangosteen, langsat, longan, pomelo, pineapple, rose apples, durian, Burmese grapes and other native fruits. Chantaburi in Thailand each year holds the World Durian Festival in early May. This single province is responsible for half of the durian production of Thailand and a quarter of the world production.[45][46][47] The Langsat Festival is held each year in Uttaradit on weekends in September. The langsat (Lansium parasiticum), for which Uttaradit is famous, is a fruit that is similar in taste to the longan.[48]

Thai green curry is usually eaten with steamed jasmine rice, but if a restaurant offers fermented rice noodles with your curry, you can expect to be eating as you would in Thailand. This curry leads with a sweet flavor, followed by a little heat from chilies and salty umami from the fish sauce. What’s essential to know is that all Thai curries start with different curry pastes made up of entirely different combinations of fresh herbs and spices. Think about that the next time you reach for the takeout menu. Yum Yum Thai Restaurant

I have never eaten in the actual restaurant, but have ordered many times for delivery. We've had issues in the past with them having slow delivery, but their food is good. They've been better the last few times we ordered so I'm warming back up to them. Their duck salad is very good and we've found their wings to be very good. The rest of their fare is above average Thai food. I'd recommend it, but order early.

Pardon the pun, but tourists go nuts for this stir fried dish. Perhaps it's the wildly contrasting textures of a dish that saut's chicken alongside roasted cashews, sweet soy sauce, onions, chilies, pepper, carrot and mushrooms. Perhaps it's the sweetening dash of honey that appeals. Do you really care? The important thing is that this dish works: it's simple but scrumptious, a little bit tame and yet still totally Thai.

As the lone Thai restaurant in the region, it's nice to have it as an option and the food is done pretty well. Great dumplings and the curry is awesome for cold nights The pad Thai is a little more saucey than what I've had before but overall four stars on the food. Word to the wise, make sure to be conservative on the spice scale. My ding of a star for the place is based on take out and the owner. Take out seems to be a real sore spot for the owner. 2 of the five times we've called over for takeout we've actually gotten takeout and the other times they've indicated that they're to busy. Fair enough. It would be helpful to state a take out policy online or on their voice mail during peak season. Having mixed messages from the staff on takeout just irritates the owner and customer. Maybe also not offer full menu at the bar as it gives the wrong impression that it's a dinner service. I'm sure the owner would prefer the bar being open for drinkers than having it clogged up with people eating. Overall a good place, but call ahead for reservations as their popularity has grown. It also reduces the chances of irritating the owner and leaving local customer feeling unwelcome. Three stars. Authentic Thai Recipe for Lemongrass Tea with Pandan Leaf

The Thai Pesticide Alert Network (Thai-PAN), a food safety advocacy group, regularly tests Thai farm produce for contamination. In their August 2016 evaluation, the group found that of 158 samples, 56 percent of produce was found to have unsafe levels of chemicals. A spokesperson for the group said that 70.2 percent of the produce from supermarkets was contaminated. Chinese kale topped the list of contaminated vegetables with 10 out of 11 samples containing residues. Red chillies (9 of 12) came in second, followed by cowpeas and basil (8 of 12), morning glory (7 of 12), small eggplants (6 of 11), cucumbers (5 of 11), tomatoes (3 of 11), cabbage (2 of 11), and Chinese cabbage (2 of 12). Among fruits, Sai Nam Phueng oranges were most contaminated as traces of chemicals were found in all eight samples. They were followed by dragon fruit (7 of 8), guava (6 of 7), papaya (3 of 6), watermelon (3 of 7), and cantaloupe (1 of 7).[53] Thai Curry Competition - Gordon Ramsay

Now that you’ve had dessert, don’t forget Soi 4’s regular menu could hold its own with the best around the Bay Area (and since they have a Soi 4 in Scottsdale, AZ, it has to be the best in the Phoenix area, you’d think). Fishy smell on entry? Not a good start. Salty miso? Eh. Shrimp rolls were crisp, and well presented, but the sauce was sugar without any contrasts. Diabetic soup. Yuck. The pineapple fried rice was sweet, greasy curry, without any contrast: Salt, spice, something. The Red Dragon sushi roll was a fried fats fest, light on any FLAVOR. Service was equally flavorless. A pale comparison to Sushi Simon in Boynton, where they don't drown the fresh fish in grease. Gotta say, a big disappointment to drive over here and find that Hot and New is more middling meh.
