Update! Came here again a year later. Food is outstanding, even gotten better. Start out wth a Thom Kha soup, perfect starter after a long cold day of skiing. Laid back vibe, good food, good prices and good selection of drink options. The night we went was crowded so expect a long wait. Unless you are staying at the Inn, you can run down and put your name in. They also have live music sometimes. Overall good spot, I would eat there again

From Cape Town to Khao San Road, the default international Thai dish! Dropped in a searing hot wok, fistfuls of small, thin or wide noodles (you choose) do a steamy minute-long dance alongside crunchy beansprouts, onion and egg, before disembarking for the nearest plate. A truly interactive eating experience, half its fun (and flavour) lies in then using a quartet of accompanying condiments - fish sauce, sugar, chilli powder and finely ground peanuts - to wake it from its slumbers.

The Department of Export Promotion of the Thai Ministry of Commerce offers potential restaurateurs plans for three different "master restaurant" types—from fast food to elegant—which investors can choose as a prefabricated restaurant plan.[95][96] Concomitantly, the Export-Import Bank of Thailand offered loans to Thai nationals aiming to open restaurants abroad, and the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand set up an infrastructure for loans of up to US$3 million for overseas food industry initiatives, including Thai restaurants.[96]

Tam phonlamai ruam ตำผลไม้รวม The fruits used in this particular salad show the fusion aspect of Thai cuisine, as it incorporates "modern" (for Thais) fruit such as apples and grapes besides traditional fruit such as pineapple and guava. The dressing is made with pounded garlic, sugar, chili peppers, dried shrimp, lime juice and fish sauce, and is similar to that of som tam.

The program was explained in Thailand: Kitchen of the World, an e-book published to promote the program. The point of the e-book: "In the view of the Export Promotion Department, Thai restaurants have a good business potential that can be developed to maintain a high level of international recognition. To achieve that goal, the department is carrying out a public relations campaign to build up a good image of the country through Thai restaurants worldwide."[94]:Chapter 7

Pu cha – a mixture of cooked crab meat, pork, garlic and pepper, deep fried inside the crab shells and served with a simple spicy sauce, such as Sriracha sauce, sweet-hot garlic sauce, nam phrik phao (roasted chilli paste), nam chim buai (plum sauce), or in a red curry paste, with chopped green onions. It is sometimes also served as deep fried patties instead of being fried in the crab shell. Pandan Meaning
Thai cuisine and the culinary traditions and cuisines of Thailand's neighbors have mutually influenced one another over the course of many centuries. Regional variations tend to correlate to neighboring states (often sharing the same cultural background and ethnicity on both sides of the border) as well as climate and geography. Northern Thai cuisine shares dishes with Shan State in Burma, northern Laos, and also with Yunnan Province in China, whereas the cuisine of Isan (northeastern Thailand) is similar to that of southern Laos, and is also influenced by Khmer cuisine from Cambodia to its south, and by Vietnamese cuisine to its east. Southern Thailand, with many dishes that contain liberal amounts of coconut milk and fresh turmeric, has that in common with Indian, Malaysian, and Indonesian cuisine.[5][6][7] In addition to these regional cuisines, there is also Thai royal cuisine which can trace its history back to the cosmopolitan palace cuisine of the Ayutthaya kingdom (1351–1767 CE). Its refinement, cooking techniques, presentation, and use of ingredients were of great influence to the cuisine of the central Thai plains.[8][9][10]

Thailand has about the same land area as Spain and a length of approximately 1,650 kilometers or 1,025 miles (Italy, in comparison, is about 1,250 kilometers or 775 miles long), with the foothills of the Himalayas in the north, a high plateau in the northeast, a verdant river basin in the center, and tropical rainforests and islands in the south. With over 40 distinct ethnic groups each with its own culture and even more languages,[26] it comes as no surprise that Thai cuisine, as a whole, features many different ingredients (suan phasom; Thai: ส่วนผสม), and ways of preparing food.

Saturday comes around and we are all so excited to try this place; we knew we were in for a treat. We had to try some of the specials, starting with the crispy Umami which were some kick butt greens. I spotted rock shrimp on the menu so I had to try it, it also had spicy mayo, so how could I pass that up? Also insanely delicious, I am a sucker for rock shrimp so you have to try this if you are too! Also got the Wahoo Truffle- another item on the specials list; this was so good- I could have ordered it twice. YumYum Cocktail Competition
That first bite was like heaven on earth. I forgot about all of the bad Thai food I'd been eating for the past 2 months and savored the beautiful blend of flavors. Now, this is what it's all about! The roll was good as well, but the Pad Kee Mao was to die for. The portion was a bit small so it was disappointing when I finished the plate - I was soooo tempted to order another to-go.
So i told them I wanted no veg in my pad thai noodles. I get the plate on the table, of course nothing but vegetables. I asked them to return and remove them. They take the plate and argued in the back with the "chef". Looked like they were calculating the order (which was the original order) .. i get my plate back without vegetables. We finish our food, get the check and of course they charge us extra for THEIR mistake. Like really?? Thanks but no thanks! Never again!! Joe's Kitchen King of Thrift

Thai cuisine only became well-known worldwide from the 1960s on, when Thailand became a destination for international tourism and US troops arrived in large numbers during the Vietnam War. The number of Thai restaurants went up from four in 1970s London to between two and three hundred in less than 25 years.[89]:3–4 The earliest attested Thai restaurant in the United States, "Chada Thai", opened its doors in 1959 in Denver, Colorado. It was run by the former newspaper publisher Lai-iad (Lily) Chittivej. The oldest Thai restaurant in London, "The Bangkok Restaurant", was opened in 1967 by Mr and Mrs Bunnag, a former Thai diplomat and his wife, in South Kensington.[90]
Fit to Be Thai'd is truly a great place. The atmosphere is fun, relaxed and a great place to be after a long day of hitting the slopes. The service is not great. You should expect waiting over an hour for your meal, but that is the charm of this place. You learn to relax and enjoy time with your family. You really get a taste of the laid back Vermont vibe. The organization and effectiveness of Fit to be Thai'd is probably a 3/10, and things are always a big chaotic. But hey, that's the charm, right?! Anyways, the food is really good! Great food, good prices, good portions! I constantly come back here because of the delicious food and enjoyable atmosphere. Teak Wood Thai Restaurant Opening in Washington DC
My ding of a star for the place is based on take out and the owner.    Take out seems to be a real sore spot for the owner.    2 of the five times we've called over for takeout we've actually gotten takeout and the other times they've indicated that they're to busy.   Fair enough.  It would be helpful to state a take out policy online or on their voice mail during peak season.  Having mixed messages from the staff on takeout just irritates the owner and customer.    Maybe also not offer full menu at the bar as it gives the wrong impression that it's a dinner service.   I'm sure the owner would prefer the bar being open for drinkers than having it clogged up with people eating.   Moped robber gets chased out by customers in Crouch End
This Thai green curry recipe features tender, thinly-sliced pieces of beef or bison simmered together with eggplant and red pepper. This curry is sumptuous and wonderful on a chilly night. The homemade green curry paste is what makes this dish sing, so don't be tempted to substitute the store-bought variety, especially when it's so easy to make from scratch, and so very flavorful and fresh-tasting. Wife and I ordered curry for lunch. Panang and Masaman curry. To Go. $30. Avid Thai enthusiast. We both love Thai. Worst Thai dish I have had in forever. Both looked identical. Should have taken photos. Both orange in color. Never seen that before. Masaman just had chunks of potatoes and 3 peanuts. It was not good. Panang curry. My favorite. Was so odd I could not tell what kind of curry it was. Place was empty. Maybe good chefs work nights. Unlikely to return. My Friend Irma: Memoirs / Cub Scout Speech / The Burglar

This is a very comforting dish for Thai people because it’s essentially noodles in a gravy. The gravy gets its flavor from fish sauce, black soy sauce and oyster sauce and shouldn’t be too sweet. If this dish is served with condiments like dry chili flakes, sugar (for you to add as you like), fish sauce and sliced hot chilies in white vinegar, you’re eating authentic lad na. So many types of appetizers find their way onto Thai menus. We’ve seen a fair number of restaurants thinking they can get away with fried cheese triangles, but fried appetizers are actually very common in Thai cuisine thanks to the Portuguese influence. Krathong tong can be found at fancier restaurants in Thailand. These delicate fried shells are typically filled with chicken, potato, corn, carrot and a tangy cream sauce — we know, we know, not very Thai-sounding ingredients, but trust us on this one.
Namphrik pla – fish chili sauce – Namphrik pla or fish chili sauce can be a little thick or thin depending on the amount of liquid from the boiling fish one puts in it. Grilled fish can be used instead of boiled fish. Any kinds of fresh chilies can be used from mild to the hottest kinds to suit one's taste. It goes well with water clover, tips of lead tree greens, or crispy eggplant.[63]

Kaeng ranchuan แกงรัญจวน Central Kaeng ranchuan is a beef curry and fermented shrimp paste chili sauce, similar to tom yam. It was created by chef in royal households from the leftovers and turned in new dish by combining pieces of meat and leftover sauce especially nam phrik kapi. The most popular of all dip is nam phrik kapi, a very delicious sauce of Thailand because this sauce can be eaten with everything. Many Thai chefs reformed kaeng ranchuan to restaurants after it was mentioned by culinary authority ML Nueang Ninrat, in a memoir explaining her life during the reign of King Rama V and VI. The people misunderstand about the origin and preparation of kaeng ranchuan because of famous TV series that do the wrong method of this dish and make people remember that this is the real kaeng ranchuan preparation method. So, the real kaeng ranchuan is in ML Ninrat book “Life in the Palace” she tells how her grandmother, the princess Sabai Ninrat created this dish. At the end of dinner there was leftovers so she asked her assistant to separate the meat from chili and basil. Then, she mixed it into a broth and added leftover of Nam prhrik kapi, so this is called the real kaeng ranchuan.
Lap kai – Lap kai requires minced chicken meat and fresh chicken blood mixed with chili paste for lap made from roasted dried chilies and spices. Som tam – grated green papaya salad, pounded with a mortar and pestle, similar to the Lao tam mak hoong. There are three main variations: som tam pu with pickled rice-paddy crab, and som tam Thai with peanuts, dried shrimp and palm sugar and som tam pla ra from the northeastern part of Thailand (Isan), with salted gourami fish, white eggplants, fish sauce and long beans. Som tam is usually eaten with sticky rice but a popular variation is to serve it with khanom chin (rice noodles) instead. Best Thai Restaurant: Nahm Jim - Gordon Ramsay

What a great find! I did not have high expectations for a small town thai place but the food was delicious! Everything we had tasted fresh and flavorful. I love asian food and having lived in Chicago, New York, and LA...I have to say this thai was better than most I have had! The service was great and it appears they do live music on weekends. Love that they ask you on a scale of 1-6 how spicy you want your food. I went with three and it had just a touch of spice, so if you like it hot go for a 5! I would not hesitate to recommend this place for a hearty apres ski meal. Thai Restaurant London | Blue Lagoon Restaurant Kensington High Street | Thai Cuisine

PLEASE!!! Please! Please! Tip the delivery guy yourself instead of including it in your credit card bill. I used to that, and one day I asked the delivery guy if they receive the tip. He said that they don't ever receive it, and said there was nothing they could do. I felt really, really bad for them because I know this is how they make a living. And please let's be conscientious of this fact and not offend them with 25 c, 50 cents of your pocket change. These poor guys go out out there under inclement weather conditions, risking getting sick and risking their very lives, yet, most of them deliver your food with a smile. Many of them have a family to feed and provide with. My heart goes out to them. Thanks.

Important to Thai dining is the practice of khluk, mixing the flavors and textures of different dishes with the rice from one's plate. The food is pushed by the fork, held in the left hand, into the spoon held in the right hand, which is then brought to the mouth.[23] A traditional ceramic spoon is sometimes used for soup, and knives are not generally used at the table.[1] It is common practice for both the Thais and the hill tribe peoples who live in Lanna and Isan to use sticky rice as an edible implement by shaping it into small, and sometimes flattened, balls by hand (and only the right hand by custom) which are then dipped into side dishes and eaten.

Hey, Mark! We’re just back from our first trip to Thailand. The Local was the only place we ate in twice, because it was that good. You’ve mentioned two of my favorite dishes in this post – the khao soi and the miang khab (the mixed aroy wrapped up in leaves). I was wondering if the chef was kind enough, or would be kind enough to share even a sketch of a recipe for either of these. Living in the US, I know I won’t really be able to reproduce these standout dishes, but I would certainly do the best I could if I had some ideas to work of off. Any ideas? A mild, tamer twist on Tom Yum, this iconic soup infuses fiery chilies, thinly sliced young galangal, crushed shallots, stalks of lemongrass and tender strips of chicken. However unlike its more watery cousin, lashings of coconut milk soften its spicy blow. Topped off with fresh lime leaves, it's a sweet-smelling concoction, both creamy and compelling.
