Wife and I ordered curry for lunch. Panang and Masaman curry. To Go. $30. Avid Thai enthusiast. We both love Thai. Worst Thai dish I have had in forever. Both looked identical. Should have taken photos. Both orange in color. Never seen that before. Masaman just had chunks of potatoes and 3 peanuts. It was not good. Panang curry. My favorite. Was so odd I could not tell what kind of curry it was. Place was empty. Maybe good chefs work nights. Unlikely to return.

Whereas many Thai dishes are now familiar in the West, the vast majority are not. In many of the dishes below, different kinds of protein, or combinations of protein, are interchangeable as the main ingredient. Beef (nuea), chicken (kai), pork (mu), duck (pet), tofu (taohu), fish (pla), prawns or shrimp (kung), crab (pu), shellfish (hoi), or egg (khai) can, for example, all be used as main ingredients for kaeng phet (red curry). A survey of the quality of fish sauce on sale across Thailand reported that just over one-third of the samples were not up to standards set by the Public Health Ministry. The three-year survey, from 2012 to 2015, involved 1,121 samples of fish sauce sold under 422 brands from 245 manufacturers. Of the total analysed, 410 samples, or 36.5 percent, did not meet the standard. The major reasons for the substandard fish sauce were low nitrogen readings and the ratio of glutamic acid to nitrogen either higher or lower than the required standards.[58]

The quality and choice of street food in Thailand is world-renowned. Bangkok is often mentioned as one of the best street food cities in the world, and even called the street food capital of the world.[76][77] The website VirtualTourist says:"Few places in the world, if any, are as synonymous with street food as Thailand. For the variety of locations and abundance of options, we selected Bangkok, Thailand, as our number one spot for street food. Bangkok is notable for both its variety of offerings and the city's abundance of street hawkers."[78]

The other main ingredient in this curry is phak bung Chin (Chinese water spinach).

Since then she’s moved to more destination-worthy digs near Southcenter, a favorite for homey Thai that now has a casual Pike/Pine sibling with its own street food menu, where seared pork belly options abound. Freshwater varieties come from the many rivers, lakes, ponds, and paddy fields inland, and seafood from the tropical seas of the southern half of the country. Some species, such as the giant river prawn, need brackish water as juveniles but live out their lives in freshwater once mature. Aquaculture of species such as Nile tilapia, catfish, tiger prawns, and blood cockles, now generates a large portion of the seafood sold in, and exported from Thailand.[30]

Kuaitiao nam and bami nam – noodle soup can be eaten at any time of day; served with many combinations of proteins, vegetables, and spicy condiments. The word kuaitiao, although originally designating only sen yai (wide rice noodles), is now used colloquially for rice noodles in general: sen mi (rice vermicelli), sen lek (narrow rice noodles) and the aforementioned sen yai. The yellow egg noodles are called bami. Four condiments are usually provided on the table: sugar, fish sauce, chili flakes, and sliced chilies in vinegar.
I sat at the bar here by myself and was treated to a cocktail by Bruce, the co-owner. His wife is the chef and she is from Thailand, and yep, she knows what she's doing. I am not an expert in Thai cuisine but most of what I've had is probably Americanized. This place serves up Thai influenced by Vermont. The Tom Yum soup was gorgeous, I ordered it on purpose because it's usually pretty simple. The broth was deep and flavorful, must have had some fish sauce in it, and there were cherry tomatoes and onions in it in addition to the tofu. Hot and sour and mildly spicy, wonderful flavor. Fresh cilantro on top. I followed with the green curry chicken, which had a decent spice level, you can get more if you need it. There was so much sauce it almost felt like soup. Carrots, zucchini, peppers, and sticky jasmine rice. Very good. I had a Sapporo on tap, which is hard to find! They don't have all the sexy nanobrews that many others have in this area but they have a decent selection. Service was good but Bruce was pulled in different directions, and the credit card system was weird, it took chip cards but I had to walk up to the machine and touch it to pay. This is a great alternative to the usual in the Mad River valley and it is clear that they cook with care and attention.

Madison Valley’s new Thai restaurant is casual enough for takeout, but the street food–centered menu and windowed dining room are worthy of an actual night out: Round sausages burst with garlic, a larb (aka salad) of crispy mushrooms dusted in rice powder is so bright and savory it’s almost oysterlike, while a trio of chicken drumsticks (and a satisfyingly rich curry) ground the kao soi noodle dish. Familiars like pad thai receive equally careful treatment. STUNG by a WARRIOR WASP!

Louisiana is known for its seafood and spice, which makes New Orleans the perfect spot for delicious Thai restaurants to flourish. Throughout the city, you’ll find bean sprouts, egg noodles, minced pork, spongy fish balls, fried garlic and peanuts creating a harmony of flavor and texture. The spices are not to be toyed with, as true Thai cooking involves only the freshest, hottest chiles that can bring the toughest Western palate to break a sweat. To bring the cooling sensations, much of the food is graced with loads of herbs, lime juice, ginger, fish sauce and lemongrass, which are tossed into dishes unabashedly.

While strangley and somewhat haphazardly decorated the food was fantastic. They ask you what spice level you would like which is great. Though with the open kitchen I did overhear the male chef making fun of a customer who returned a dish for being too spicy. Regardless of decor and chef teasing I would 100% return for the great food and large portion size.

As the lone Thai restaurant in the region, it's nice to have it as an option and the food is done pretty well. Great dumplings and the curry is awesome for cold nights The pad Thai is a little more saucey than what I've had before but overall four stars on the food. Word to the wise, make sure to be conservative on the spice scale. My ding of a star for the place is based on take out and the owner. Take out seems to be a real sore spot for the owner. 2 of the five times we've called over for takeout we've actually gotten takeout and the other times they've indicated that they're to busy. Fair enough. It would be helpful to state a take out policy online or on their voice mail during peak season. Having mixed messages from the staff on takeout just irritates the owner and customer. Maybe also not offer full menu at the bar as it gives the wrong impression that it's a dinner service. I'm sure the owner would prefer the bar being open for drinkers than having it clogged up with people eating. Overall a good place, but call ahead for reservations as their popularity has grown. It also reduces the chances of irritating the owner and leaving local customer feeling unwelcome. Three stars. Simply Thai, Teddington - Gordon Ramsay
I just had a fantastic dinner at The Local earlier. The Pak Miang Pad Kai was simple, but like you said, they did it perfectly. I also had the Gaeng Kua Gai Bai Som Pan Kee Maa and ordered it spicy. To determine authenticity, Thai researchers developed the "e-delicious machine", described as "...an intelligent robot that measures smell and taste in food ingredients through sensor technology in order to measure taste like a food critic."[113] The machine evaluates food by measuring its conductivity at different voltages. Readings from 10 sensors are combined to produce a chemical signature. Because the machine cannot judge taste, the food is compared with a standard derived from a database of popular preferences for each dish. For tom yam, the spicy soup flavored with Kaffir lime leaves and coriander, researchers posted notices at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, requesting 120 tasters. The tasters—students, university staff, and area workers—were paid a few baht for their opinions. They were served 10 differently prepared soups and rated each one. The winning soup was declared the standard, and its chemical characteristics were programmed into the machine. When testing food, the machine returns a numerical score from one to 100. A score lower than 80 is deemed "not up to standard". The machine cost about US$100,000 to develop.[108] Restaurants that follow officially sanctioned recipes can affix a "Thai Delicious" logo to their menus.[108] As each machine sells for 200,000 baht, this project was shelved also.[107] Tootoomoo Crouch End
The global popularity of Thai cuisine is seen as an important factor in promoting tourism, and also increased exports of Thailand's agricultural sector. It is a result of deliberate "gastrodiplomacy". In June 2009, the Tourism Authority of Thailand organised a conference to discuss these matters at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok. TAT Governor Seree Wangpaichitr said, "This conference was long overdue. The promotion of Thai cuisine is one of our major niche-market targets. Our figures show that visitors spent 38.8 billion baht on eating and drinking last year, up 16% over 1997."[91]

Arrived around 7pm, the place was pretty bare. It did fill up rather quickly in less than an hour, so that always a good indicator. Certainly off the beaten track of Warren, Fit to be Thaid is worth the trip. Offering a selection of local beers on tap, as well as decent selection of wine and spirits, there's no reason to exclude it for just a drink and snack. The menu is short, which is great. There's a special app of the day, which for us was Salmon Rangoon. I highly recommend the Drunken Noodles. The veggies were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. There is scarcely a Thai dish that is not sold by a street vendor or at a market somewhere in Thailand. Some specialize in only one or two dishes, others offer a complete menu that rival that of restaurants. Some sell only pre-cooked foods, others make food to order. The foods that are made to order, tend to be dishes that can be quickly prepared: quick stir fries with rice, such as phat kaphrao (spicy basil-fried minced pork, chicken, or seafood)[79] or phat khana (stir fried gailan), and quick curries such as pladuk phat phet (catfish fried with red curry paste). Thai food was traditionally eaten with the hand [20][21] while seated on mats or carpets on the floor or coffee table in upper middle class family, customs still found in the more traditional households. Today, however, most Thais eat with a fork and spoon. Tables and chairs were introduced as part of a broader Westernization drive during the reign of King Mongkut, Rama IV. The fork and spoon were introduced by King Chulalongkorn after his return from a tour of Europe in 1897 CE.[22] Yum Yum Sab - Oktober 2016

Food markets in Thailand, large open air halls with permanent stalls, tend to operate as a collection of street stalls, each vendor with their own set of tables and providing (limited) service, although some resemble the regular food courts at shopping malls and large supermarkets, with service counters and the communal use of tables. Food courts and food markets offer many of the same foods as street stalls, both pre-cooked as well as made to order. Night food markets, in the form of a collection of street stalls and mobile vendors, spring up in parking lots, along busy streets, and at temple fairs and local festivals in the evenings, when the temperatures are more agreeable and people have finished work. We ordered from To B Thai off Seamless for the first time after numerous bad Thai Food delivery experiences. I'm pleased to report that the food seemed pretty on point for delivery. I got an order of Pad See Ew with mock duck, and Red Curry with tofu. We also ordered some fried tofu and crab cheese wontons because, why not. The Pad See Ew was nice a flavorful as well as the curry. A nice selection of vegetables in the curry, not overloaded with onions and peppers like a lot of places. Crab cheese wontons were even a wee bit fancier then the usual and a little more tasty with some scallion. I probably will skip the tofu app next time, not because it wasn't tasty but because it's just boring. We are giving To B Thai three starts because the actually delivery was a bit of a fail. The bag came soaked in curry sauce and ripped open and made a huge mess. I recommend they use a better container in order to avoid this. We lost about 40% of our curry and had a lot of clean up to do. All our food was covered in curry. We also requested no utensils and got the full work up.
Thai food is known for its enthusiastic use of fresh (rather than dried) herbs and spices. Common flavors in Thai food come from garlic, galangal, coriander/cilantro, lemon grass, shallots, pepper, kaffir lime leaves, shrimp paste, fish sauce, and chilies. Palm sugar, made from the sap of certain Borassus palms, is used to sweeten dishes while lime and tamarind contribute sour notes. Meats used in Thai cuisine are usually pork and chicken, and also duck, beef, and water buffalo. Goat and mutton are rarely eaten except by Muslim Thais. Game, such as wild boar, deer and wild birds, are now less common due to loss of habitat, the introduction of modern methods of intensive animal farming in the 1960s, and the rise of agribusinesses, such as Thai Charoen Pokphand Foods, in the 1980s.[27] Traditionally, fish, crustaceans, and shellfish play an important role in the diet of Thai people.[28] Anna Leonowens (of The King and I fame) observed in her book The English Governess at the Siamese Court (1870):[29] AMAZING THAI FOOD IN LONDON - Thai Silk Restaurant

Came here for the first time on a Saturday night at 7pm, very friendly staff and greeted us right away.  Their menu is really BIG, they bring 2 menus out, one for Thai food and one for Sushi.  We decided to share a few different things, red curry with shrimp, Popeye tuna salad and the OMG sushi roll.  The service was excellent and very fast.  The food was perfect with the curry being right on par.  The Popeye tuna salad was unbelievable, and served in a martini glass.  The tuna in the salad and the salmon in the sushi roll were super fresh!   Alexandra Palace's East Wing Restoration Project

It’s the best-looking Thai restaurant in a town crawling with Thai joints. You know the place: that filigreed facade at 45th and Woodlawn in Wallingford. Inside, carved teak covers the walls, lilting Thai folk music lifts the mood, and heavy brass utensils adorn the table. But the real beauty begins when the pad thai lands. Those complex, sour-sweet-savory notes? How pad thai is meant to taste, which is to say, without a swim in that Western cure-all called ketchup. Instead, your waiter will tear in Chinese chives and banana blossom, then grind peanuts, sugar, and dried chilies to your taste. Curries at May are balanced and silken; seafood dishes—like the signature pad grapao samui with sauteed sea scallops, prawns, and calamari in a feisty, basil sauce—are brightly seasoned and packed with fish. As the hoppin’ downstairs bar attests—a destination unto itself—the place even offers cocktails.

Very good. I ordered the jumping wahoo roll, my two young girls each ordered a sushi roll with just imitation crab and split the chicken teryaki lunch special. My super picky 7 year old loved it and asked to come back. That's wonderful news for me because now I won't have to listen to whining any time I want something other than steak and Mac and cheese.... My roll was excellent, loved the combination of flavors. The place looks fairly new, it's well decorated, friendly service and the bathroom was spotless. That's huge, because if the bathroom is dirty, you know da*n well the kitchen is dirty. My only complaint is that the Salad that came with the lunch special was bland. Dressing was a bit watery and wasn't anything special. Other than that, the place gets two thumbs up.

What can you get for $2.50 in the Tenderloin these days? Okay, we’re not going there, but for just 10 quarters you can get a bowl of flat-out awesome off-menu boat noodles with a deeply layered beef broth from beef blood and bones, garnished with pork cracklings at Zen Yai Thai. It's like a Peckenpaugh Western film version of a noodle soup, and buoyant because it's sold from boats back in Thailand. Barbecue is the other signature of Zen Yai -- not usually a strong point at Tenderloin Thai spots, but here it’s obligatory. Also worth getting: shrimp spring rolls and the house tom yum soup -- just know though, those cost more than $3.
I had the kobi roll and it was absolutely delicious. My daughter had the chicken teriyaki with rice and veggies. The place is warm and inviting. A+ customer service. Everyone was super friendly and helpful in making suggestions, as this was our first time there. My daughter and I were so happy with our food that we are going back tomorrow for lunch!

Excellent, truly. It's hard to find a bad meal in the Valley, so this was just one more excellent place to find! It came recommended by a bunch of people and they were right! Got the Pad Thai at a level 1 because we heard 2 would blow your socks off and am glad I started with 1 but would try 2 next time. I finished my whole plate which I've never done, and it's not because the portion was small, it was decent! The crab Rangoon order was only 4 which was pretty small but they were still very good. Mai Tai was strong. From what we learned, the owners are Nashville singer/songwriter and a cook that hails straight from Bangkok. We hear the live music on Friday and Saturday by the owner is awesome, and the food is definitely excellent! Yum Yum

The panang curry that I received was not a curry, it tasted like Tom ka soup and had the consistency of soup! It was runny, it lacked flavor and the spice level was not "spicy" as we asked for. Where was the curry? I've eaten Thai food before...the curry was missing in action. The bf ate it because we waited so long and was super hungry. LOL I refused.

Its most popular offering was called "banana split", with three flavors of ice cream, chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.[72]
This restaurant was very welcoming. We had just been at a school play and decided to eat here. We got the chose of which booth and sat down, starving. I definitely recommend the chicken satay and pork dumplings! The service fine. Also two of the people in our group went home with an upset stomach, not sure what dish it was though. Thai cuisine only became well-known worldwide from the 1960s on, when Thailand became a destination for international tourism and US troops arrived in large numbers during the Vietnam War. The number of Thai restaurants went up from four in 1970s London to between two and three hundred in less than 25 years.[89]:3–4 The earliest attested Thai restaurant in the United States, "Chada Thai", opened its doors in 1959 in Denver, Colorado. It was run by the former newspaper publisher Lai-iad (Lily) Chittivej. The oldest Thai restaurant in London, "The Bangkok Restaurant", was opened in 1967 by Mr and Mrs Bunnag, a former Thai diplomat and his wife, in South Kensington.[90] Mango Tree is a fine dining Halal Thai restaurant in Belgravia, London

Fishy smell on entry? Not a good start. Salty miso? Eh. Shrimp rolls were crisp, and well presented, but the sauce was sugar without any contrasts. Diabetic soup. Yuck. The pineapple fried rice was sweet, greasy curry, without any contrast: Salt, spice, something. The Red Dragon sushi roll was a fried fats fest, light on any FLAVOR. Service was equally flavorless. But about a month ago, the restaurant debuted a new Thai menu, under the name Baan Thai, in response to all the customers who came upstairs asking for Thai food. Instead of Americanized Thai staples like pad thai and panang curry that you'll find at Thai Tanic, the upstairs restaurant features a completely separate menu—no substitutions allowed—with more authentic dishes from across Thailand, including the more sour, funky, spicy flavors of the northern part of the country. In the finest Thai food, spices all play their positions, each identifiable, all working as a team. Curries and noodle dishes at the unassuming, color-splashed Noodle Boat are delicious, big league examples. Little touches, like lime leaves torn rather than cut for more flavor in soups and a pungent, hand-mixed chili paste, make Noodle Boat a standout. Mieng kum is essential, a thoroughly authentic roll-your-own appetizer: roasted coconut, crushed peanuts, lime wedges (leave the peel on), red onion, and Thai chilies are wrapped into emerald, nutty cha plu leaves hard to find outside Thailand. At first, San Jose’s Siam Fine Thai Cuisine strikes as the normal, generic Thai restaurant found in every city. But when you notice the old lady methodically cutting sweet basil at one table and the delicate texture of sea bass and myriad layers to its green curry, you realize you’re onto something here. The most-ordered dish is the decidedly-not-authentic-though-exceedingly-worthwhile "Mango Tango" that sounds like (and is) a Jamba Juice flavor, but really is a slightly sweet, very spicy, not-cloying-at-all plate of prawns, chicken, cashews, mango, and various vegetables. Being sandwiched between the faux Europe of Santana Row and mega-mall dread of Valley Fair, avoid the area at all costs come holiday shopping time.
La Loubère, an envoy from France during the reign of King Narai the Great, recorded that the food at the court was generally similar to villager food. I have never eaten in the actual restaurant, but have ordered many times for delivery. We've had issues in the past with them having slow delivery, but their food is good. They've been better the last few times we ordered so I'm warming back up to them. Their duck salad is very good and we've found their wings to be very good. The rest of their fare is above average Thai food. I'd recommend it, but order early. Conor Maynard Cooking At YumYum Thai Restaurant
The sushi rolls came in about 10 pieces each and was BEAUTIFULLY decorated. It definitely was filling. The drunken noodles were well cooked and not too soft. The pieces of chicken were pretty large. The chicken satay was more than I expect. I also ordered a bowl of rice on the side. The chicken satay was served with cucumber and thai peanut sauce. I loved putting the cucumber sauce on my rice and dipping the chicken in the peanut sauce.

For our entrees, we chose the Red Curry and veggie based Curry. I was pleased with the intensity of heat, as well as the equally smooth, creamy texture of the coconut milk. One of the best curries I have ever tried! The best feature about FTBT was the service. We had the pleasure of being served by adequately attentive staff. Food orders were promptly taken without feeling rush. Courtesy with the utmost respect given. Water never went empty. I have to disagree with the 2 previous reviews claiming service was poor. Possibly, there were some additional wait staff hired with more experience, but I would be hard pressed to agreed with those statements at the current time. Prices are reasonable for Thai cuisine. Expect to spend about 60 for 2 with app, entrees and drinks.
