Many dishes that are now popular in Thailand were originally Chinese dishes. They were introduced to Thailand by the Hokkien people starting in the 15th century, and by the Teochew people who started settling in larger numbers from the late–18th century onward, mainly in the towns and cities, and now form the majority of Thai Chinese. Such dishes include chok (Thai: โจ๊ก), rice porridge; salapao (steamed buns); kuaitiao rat na (fried rice-noodles); and khao kha mu (stewed pork with rice). The Chinese also introduced the use of the wok for cooking, the technique of deep-frying and stir frying dishes, several types of noodles, taochiao (fermented bean paste), soy sauces, and tofu. The cuisines of India and Persia, brought first by traders, and later settlers from these regions, with their use of dried spices, gave rise to Thai adaptations and dishes such as kaeng kari (yellow curry) and kaeng matsaman (massaman curry). A survey of the quality of fish sauce on sale across Thailand reported that just over one-third of the samples were not up to standards set by the Public Health Ministry. The three-year survey, from 2012 to 2015, involved 1,121 samples of fish sauce sold under 422 brands from 245 manufacturers. Of the total analysed, 410 samples, or 36.5 percent, did not meet the standard. The major reasons for the substandard fish sauce were low nitrogen readings and the ratio of glutamic acid to nitrogen either higher or lower than the required standards. Yum Yum

Thailand has about the same land area as Spain and a length of approximately 1,650 kilometers or 1,025 miles (Italy, in comparison, is about 1,250 kilometers or 775 miles long), with the foothills of the Himalayas in the north, a high plateau in the northeast, a verdant river basin in the center, and tropical rainforests and islands in the south. With over 40 distinct ethnic groups each with its own culture and even more languages, it comes as no surprise that Thai cuisine, as a whole, features many different ingredients (suan phasom; Thai: ส่วนผสม), and ways of preparing food.

My ding of a star for the place is based on take out and the owner. Take out seems to be a real sore spot for the owner. 2 of the five times we've called over for takeout we've actually gotten takeout and the other times they've indicated that they're to busy. Fair enough. It would be helpful to state a take out policy online or on their voice mail during peak season. Having mixed messages from the staff on takeout just irritates the owner and customer. Maybe also not offer full menu at the bar as it gives the wrong impression that it's a dinner service. I'm sure the owner would prefer the bar being open for drinkers than having it clogged up with people eating. The F Word Best Local Thai Restaurant - Gordon Ramsay
In addition, the restaurant is ideally located above Pointe Rouge beach in Marseille and our P.Kitchen has a verdant terrace with a breathtaking view of the beach and the Mediterranean Sea. We invite you to come discover the restaurant’s mix of traditional Thai food and semi-gourmet French cuisine while enjoying the casual chic atmosphere. Being Stupid In Ikea | Vlog
The panang curry that I received was not a curry, it tasted like Tom ka soup and had the consistency of soup! It was runny, it lacked flavor and the spice level was not "spicy" as we asked for. Where was the curry? I've eaten Thai food before...the curry was missing in action. The bf ate it because we waited so long and was super hungry. LOL I refused.
Like most other Asian cuisines, rice is the staple grain of Thai cuisine. According to Thai food expert McDang, rice is the first and most important part of any meal, and the words for rice and food are the same: khao. As in many other rice eating cultures, to say "eat rice" (in Thai "kin khao"; pronounced as "keen cow") means to eat food. Rice is such an integral part of the diet that a common Thai greeting is "kin khao reu yang?" which literally translates as "Have you eaten rice yet?". Giving this restaurant one star is being generous. I went there tonight. They seated me and my daughter and left us sitting at the table for a half hour. No water no acknowledgement whatsoever, even when we asked to order. One waitress ran around collecting plates and gave someone their pick up order. Other than that, there wasn't much when it came to staff. After being ignored for that long we just got up and left. We went to saiko-I where they immediately seated us gave us water and took our order.....and our food came right out Clover Japanese and Thai restaurant limerick
Ice cream was introduced to Thailand during the reign of King Rama V when the first ice cream machine was imported to Thailand. Ice cream in the second half of the 19th century was made of coconut water blended with ice. At first, ice couldn't be produced in Thailand. That led to importing ice from Singapore. Ice cream was then an upper-class treat, but over time ice cream became more widely available and the product was improved by replacing coconut water with coconut milk.

So i told them I wanted no veg in my pad thai noodles. I get the plate on the table, of course nothing but vegetables. I asked them to return and remove them. They take the plate and argued in the back with the "chef". Looked like they were calculating the order (which was the original order) .. i get my plate back without vegetables. We finish our food, get the check and of course they charge us extra for THEIR mistake. Like really?? Thanks but no thanks! Never again!!
Recently returned from a trip to Thailand and can genuinely say this food tastes very authentic. Our waitress was very sweet, and the atmosphere was cozy. My only complaint was that I wasn't wild about the Thai Me Up cocktail special, so it was a big bummer since that was $10 and I didn't end up drinking any of it. The beers were good though, and the food was solid! Would recommend!

Feel bad giving this place only 3 stars, but I have to be honest based on our collective meal experience. I had cashew chicken and my wife had pad see ew. My cashew chicken was quite good, and when they say Thai spicy they actually deliver. Unfortunately my wife didn't really enjoy her pad see ew. The noodles were a bit over cooked and it was just too sweet overall. That being said, we'd both eat here again in a heartbeat. The service was top notch, and the atmosphere was nice (we ate outside on the deck). Perhaps the pad see ew was just having an off night. Next time we are in the area we will give it another shot!

Although many of the exotic fruits of Thailand may have been sometimes unavailable in Western countries, Asian markets now import such fruits as rambutan and lychees. In Thailand one can find papaya, jackfruit, mango, mangosteen, langsat, longan, pomelo, pineapple, rose apples, durian, Burmese grapes and other native fruits. Chantaburi in Thailand each year holds the World Durian Festival in early May. This single province is responsible for half of the durian production of Thailand and a quarter of the world production. The Langsat Festival is held each year in Uttaradit on weekends in September. The langsat (Lansium parasiticum), for which Uttaradit is famous, is a fruit that is similar in taste to the longan. Excellent, truly. It's hard to find a bad meal in the Valley, so this was just one more excellent place to find! It came recommended by a bunch of people and they were right! Got the Pad Thai at a level 1 because we heard 2 would blow your socks off and am glad I started with 1 but would try 2 next time. I finished my whole plate which I've never done, and it's not because the portion was small, it was decent! The crab Rangoon order was only 4 which was pretty small but they were still very good. Mai Tai was strong. From what we learned, the owners are Nashville singer/songwriter and a cook that hails straight from Bangkok. We hear the live music on Friday and Saturday by the owner is awesome, and the food is definitely excellent! Yum Yum
Arrived around 7pm, the place was pretty bare. It did fill up rather quickly in less than an hour, so that always a good indicator. Certainly off the beaten track of Warren, Fit to be Thaid is worth the trip. Offering a selection of local beers on tap, as well as decent selection of wine and spirits, there's no reason to exclude it for just a drink and snack. The menu is short, which is great. There's a special app of the day, which for us was Salmon Rangoon. I highly recommend the Drunken Noodles. The veggies were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. For our entrees, we chose the Red Curry and veggie based Curry. I was pleased with the intensity of heat, as well as the equally smooth, creamy texture of the coconut milk. One of the best curries I have ever tried!

Fit to Be Thai'd is truly a great place. The atmosphere is fun, relaxed and a great place to be after a long day of hitting the slopes. The service is not great. You should expect waiting over an hour for your meal, but that is the charm of this place. You learn to relax and enjoy time with your family. You really get a taste of the laid back Vermont vibe. The organization and effectiveness of Fit to be Thai'd is probably a 3/10, and things are always a big chaotic. But hey, that's the charm, right?! Anyways, the food is really good! Very good. I ordered the jumping wahoo roll, my two young girls each ordered a sushi roll with just imitation crab and split the chicken teryaki lunch special. My super picky 7 year old loved it and asked to come back. That's wonderful news for me because now I won't have to listen to whining any time I want something other than steak and Mac and cheese.... My roll was excellent, loved the combination of flavors. The place looks fairly new, it's well decorated, friendly service and the bathroom was spotless. That's huge, because if the bathroom is dirty, you know da*n well the kitchen is dirty. My only complaint is that the Salad that came with the lunch special was bland. Dressing was a bit watery and wasn't anything special. Other than that, the place gets two thumbs up.

Thai meals typically consist of rice (khao in Thai) with many complementary dishes shared by all. The dishes are all served at the same time, including the soups, and it is also customary to provide more dishes than there are guests at a table. A Thai family meal would normally consist of rice with several dishes which should form a harmonious contrast of flavors and textures as well as preparation methods. Traditionally, a meal would have at least five elements: a dip or relish for raw or cooked vegetables (khrueang chim) is the most crucial component of any Thai meal. Khrueang chim, considered a building block of Thai food by Chef McDang, may come in the form of a spicy chili sauce or relish called nam phrik (made of raw or cooked chilies and other ingredients, which are then mashed together), or a type of dip enriched with coconut milk called lon. The other elements would include a clear soup (perhaps a spicy tom yam or a mellow tom chuet), a curry or stew (essentially any dish identified with the kaeng prefix), a deep-fried dish and a stir fried dish of meat, fish, seafood, or vegetables.

The global popularity of Thai cuisine is seen as an important factor in promoting tourism, and also increased exports of Thailand's agricultural sector. It is a result of deliberate "gastrodiplomacy". In June 2009, the Tourism Authority of Thailand organised a conference to discuss these matters at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok. TAT Governor Seree Wangpaichitr said, "This conference was long overdue. The promotion of Thai cuisine is one of our major niche-market targets. Our figures show that visitors spent 38.8 billion baht on eating and drinking last year, up 16% over 1997." WOW Simply Japanese a Restaurants in London serving Japanese Food

Important to Thai dining is the practice of khluk, mixing the flavors and textures of different dishes with the rice from one's plate. The food is pushed by the fork, held in the left hand, into the spoon held in the right hand, which is then brought to the mouth. A traditional ceramic spoon is sometimes used for soup, and knives are not generally used at the table. It is common practice for both the Thais and the hill tribe peoples who live in Lanna and Isan to use sticky rice as an edible implement by shaping it into small, and sometimes flattened, balls by hand (and only the right hand by custom) which are then dipped into side dishes and eaten. Western influences, starting in 1511 when the first diplomatic mission from the Portuguese arrived at the court of Ayutthaya, have created dishes such as foi thong, the Thai adaptation of the Portuguese fios de ovos, and sangkhaya, where coconut milk replaces cow's milk in making a custard. These dishes were said to have been brought to Thailand in the 17th century by Maria Guyomar de Pinha, a woman of mixed Japanese-Portuguese-Bengali ancestry who was born in Ayutthaya, and became the wife of Constantine Phaulkon, a Greek adviser to King Narai. The most notable influence from the West must be the introduction of the chili pepper from the Americas in the 16th or 17th century. It, and rice, are now two of the most important ingredients in Thai cuisine. During the Columbian Exchange, Portuguese and Spanish ships brought new foodstuffs from the Americas including tomatoes, corn, papaya, pea eggplants, pineapple, pumpkins, culantro, cashews, and peanuts. Thai dishes use a wide variety of herbs, spices and leaves rarely found in the West. The characteristic flavor of kaffir lime leaves (bai makrut) appears in many Thai soups (e.g., the hot and sour tom yam) or curry from the southern and central areas of Thailand. The Thai lime (manao) is smaller, darker and sweeter than the kaffir lime, which has a rough looking skin with a stronger lime flavor. Kaffir lime leaves or rind is frequently combined with galangal (kha) and lemongrass (takhrai), either kept whole in simmered dishes or blended together with liberal amounts of chilies and other aromatics to make curry paste. Fresh Thai basil, distinctively redolent of cloves, and with stems which are often tinged with a purple color, are used to add fragrance in certain dishes such as green curry. Other commonly used herbs in Thai cuisine include phak chi, (coriander or cilantro leaves), rak phak chi (cilantro/coriander roots), spearmint (saranae), holy basil (kraphao), ginger (khing), turmeric (khamin), fingerroot (krachai), culantro (phak chi farang), pandanus leaves (bai toei), and Thai lemon basil (maenglak). Spices and spice mixtures used in Thai cuisine include phong phalo (five-spice powder), phong kari (curry powder), and fresh and dried peppercorns (phrik thai). Northern Thai larb uses a very elaborate spice mix, called phrik lap, which includes ingredients such as cumin, cloves, long pepper, star anise, prickly ash seeds and cinnamon. Thai food was traditionally eaten with the hand while seated on mats or carpets on the floor or coffee table in upper middle class family, customs still found in the more traditional households. Today, however, most Thais eat with a fork and spoon. Tables and chairs were introduced as part of a broader Westernization drive during the reign of King Mongkut, Rama IV. I went here on a Wednesday evening. Granted it was during Presidents Day weekend but when we walked in, the restaurant was half empty. Yay! But as we stood by the entrance for 10 minutes, no one acknowledged our existence even though there was a sign on the hostess table that said "Please wait to be seated". More people are starting to line up. I see a waitress scrambling from table to table looking flustered. Another waiter is walking around frantically. Then a customer from the far side of the restaurant goes up to the waitress and complains that they ordered dumplings before the other tables and still haven't received them. The customer wasn't overtly rude. The waitress then goes to the manager (?) and vents about the said customer. OK.

told twice it was ok just going to take some time. Turns out Bruce who was at the bar watching us the entire time says no- no more takeout tonight ...?! Very annoying we were standing there he could have said something. We explained to him what we were told but Instead he was rude and really didn't care. It's really disappointing we live close to it and we're hoping for a great new place but no matter how good the food is bad customer service isn't necessary and we won't be back. We left and went to the Hyde Away. Read more
Now that you’ve had dessert, don’t forget Soi 4’s regular menu could hold its own with the best around the Bay Area (and since they have a Soi 4 in Scottsdale, AZ, it has to be the best in the Phoenix area, you’d think). Mustard leaf-wrapped shrimp and coconut called miang kum is the finger food you've dream of at cocktail receptions. Then go crazy for the red curry with pork shoulder and kabocha squash. Across the bridge, the owners also run Basil and Basil Canteen with nearly identical menus. Skip the decidedly non-craft cocktails at all the spots and have another round of Singha with the best bacon-free Brussels sprouts around. Pandan Leaf Jelly with Milk

Joe's Kitchen King of Thrift
Pla thot khamin ปลาทอดขมิ้น South Typical for southern Thai cuisine, this deep-fried fish has first been marinated in a spice mixture which includes a large amount of turmeric (khamin). In addition, this particular version was topped with crispy deep-fried chopped garlic and turmeric. It is often served with raw vegetables on the side, and a spicy dipping sauce.

Khao soi Mae Sai ข้าวซอยแม่สาย North Khao soi Mae Sai is the name in Chiang Mai of a certain type of khao soi that is more common in Chiang Rai province, in the area along the border with Burma and Laos (Mae Sai is a border town in Chiang Rai province). It is a spicy soup-like dish, similar to the broth used in khanom chin nam ngiao, containing soft, wide rice noodles, pork ribs, congealed pork blood, and minced pork. Tomatoes and fermented soy bean give it its specific taste. Sliced raw cabbage and bean sprouts are served on the side.

Most of the insects taste fairly bland when deep-fried, somewhat like popcorn and prawns. But when deep-fried together with kaffir lime leaves, chilies and garlic, the insects become an excellent snack to go with a drink. In contrast to the bland taste of most of these insects, the maeng da or maelong da na (Lethocerus indicus) has been described as having a very penetrating taste, similar to that of a very ripe gorgonzola cheese. This giant water bug is famously used in a chili dip called nam phrik maeng da. Ant eggs and silkworms are eaten boiled in a soup in Isan, or used in egg dishes in northern Thailand.
I have never eaten in the actual restaurant, but have ordered many times for delivery. We've had issues in the past with them having slow delivery, but their food is good. They've been better the last few times we ordered so I'm warming back up to them. Their duck salad is very good and we've found their wings to be very good. The rest of their fare is above average Thai food. I'd recommend it, but order early. Lamai Thai: school of authentic cooking
We made a reservation here for 15 people for lunch right after my wedding. The restaurant, food, and service was phenomenal! We had to sit outside and it was a bit chilly for the day, but they happily set up the outdoor heaters for us. There was a good selection of food for our diverse group. Every person in the group was raving about their meals! Even the kids (ages 3, 7, and 9) enjoyed their chicken and asked for more, which is huge for being picky eaters. Our group ordered different options from sushi, to giant plates of fried rice, to whole snapper, and everyone genuinely enjoyed what they ate, and praised our great choice of restaurant. They had a great selection of sakes and everyone enjoyed passing the bottle around and sampling the delicious coconut sake. The waitress did an excellent job of making our lunch special for my bride and me, as they gave us a small gift and a special dessert at the end of the meal. London Good Street Food. Kaeng thepho แกงเทโพ Central One of the dishes mentioned in the poem of King Rama II on Thai dishes, it is a central Thai curry originally made with the fatty belly part of the Pangasius Larnaudii (thae pho; shark catfish) but now more often belly pork is used as is the case with the version shown in the photo. The other main ingredient in this curry is phak bung Chin (Chinese water spinach).

Later this month, Lopburi, Thailand will host the 25th anniversary of one of the world’s great events: the Monkey Buffet Festival, wherein monkeys are served a massive buffet in front of an ancient temple. Yup. Based on the way the monkeys stuff their faces, it’s clear that they know one thing we’ve also learned here, half a world away: Thai food is awesome. Lucky for us, it’s also plentiful in the Bay Area. Here are the 14 best spots to get it: East London's Hottest Restaurants, best Restaurants in London, top Restaurants in London
First, in my view, there is NO excuse to have less than perfect rice at a restaurant charging these prices. The rice was overcooked and gummy. Then one relatively small to medium size crab with onions and bell peppers cost a whopping 780 THB. There was absolutely nothing to get excited about. The clientele was mostly foreigners. No comparison to Bahn Som Tam or Soei, where the food and atmosphere were both exciting.

I think the last sentence is making me contemplating a visit. As there are more foreigner than Thai. One thing that people always say is that if the an Asian restaurant have mostly foreign customer then it usually not so delicious in Thai context. Maybe just a question, excluding the price factor, do you think Thai people would go to this place for their meal? 3 EASY STEPS TO INCREASE YOUR FPS IN PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG)

From Cape Town to Khao San Road, the default international Thai dish! Dropped in a searing hot wok, fistfuls of small, thin or wide noodles (you choose) do a steamy minute-long dance alongside crunchy beansprouts, onion and egg, before disembarking for the nearest plate. A truly interactive eating experience, half its fun (and flavour) lies in then using a quartet of accompanying condiments - fish sauce, sugar, chilli powder and finely ground peanuts - to wake it from its slumbers.
The Pop Company in the 1970s set up the first ice-cream manufacturing plant in Thailand. The company used a duck logo, resulting it the nickname aitim tra pet (Thai: ไอติมตราเป็ด; "duck brand ice cream"). It was sold in front of Chaloemchai Theater. Its most popular offering was called "banana split", with three flavors of ice cream, chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. ASMR RAW HONEYCOMB (EATING SOUNDS) | SAS-ASMR Part 4
Tom som kraduk mu ต้มส้มกระดูกหมู Tom som translates to "sour soup". This particular version is a basic one with only pork ribs (kraduk mu) and it derives its sourness from lime juice. Other types of tom som can also use tamarind for acidity, or a combination of both lime and tamarind, and can be made from a multitude of ingredients: meats as well as seafood, and vegetables. Sheer curtains of mosquito netting demarcate a charming brick-walled room on the Columbia City strip. A vast menu includes Thai staples (great spicy shrimp tom yum goong soup) plus whole tilapia and elegant drunken noodles, all for shockingly reasonable prices. Even better, Spice Room has a firm grasp of what Seattle wants in a neighborly Thai restaurant—an option for brown rice, stiff cocktails, a few fusion dishes (great Thai steak), and well-informed servers you can trust.
