Later this month, Lopburi, Thailand will host the 25th anniversary of one of the world’s great events: the Monkey Buffet Festival, wherein monkeys are served a massive buffet in front of an ancient temple. Yup. Based on the way the monkeys stuff their faces, it’s clear that they know one thing we’ve also learned here, half a world away: Thai food is awesome. Lucky for us, it’s also plentiful in the Bay Area. Here are the 14 best spots to get it: Storytelling at Art House Crouch End

This restaurant was very welcoming. We had just been at a school play and decided to eat here. We got the chose of which booth and sat down, starving. I definitely recommend the chicken satay and pork dumplings! The service fine. Also two of the people in our group went home with an upset stomach, not sure what dish it was though. There was a beautiful pond path that a couple of us went on too after.
Love the food here but the service is pretty bad 😔 Booked in for 7pm last night. Waited until 8pm fo...r our entrees & then another 55 minutes for our mains. People that walked in way after us were getting their meals before ours. Only 1 fork on our table & had to wait 15 minutes for another fork, placements were covered in food. Such a let down! See More
Morsels of fresh chicken. Cherry-sized eggplants. Tender bamboo shoots. Sprigs of Coriander. Generous handfuls of sweet basil. These humble elements form the body of this seminal curry. But how does it get so gloriously green you ask? Oh, that'll be the spoons of green curry paste that's stirred furiously into hot creamy coconut milk. Served alongside a bowl of fragrant Thai rice, Gaeng Keow Kan Gai is the extreme opposite. BEST KEBAB IN MBK
Few restaurants offer this dish because it calls for pandan leaves, an essential ingredient in Southeast Asian cuisine. The leaves are wrapped around chicken marinated in soy sauce, sesame oil and coriander roots. When fried, the leaves perfume the chicken, imparting a grassy, herbal flavor. Look out for this dish — if a restaurant offers this treat, you can be assured you are in good Thai hands. Pandan Leaf Thai Restaurant in London UK serving Pad Thai and Salad

In a survey of hydroponically-grown vegetables, Thai-PAN, in late-2017, tested 30 hydroponic vegetables purchased at Thai fresh markets and supermarkets. Apples, pears, peaches, grapes, and strawberries, which do not traditionally grow in Thailand and in the past had to be imported, have become increasingly popular in the last few decades since they were introduced to Thai farmers by the Thai Royal Projects, starting in 1969, and the Doi Tung Project since 1988. These temperate fruit grow especially well in the cooler, northern Thai highlands, where they were initially introduced as a replacement for the cultivation of opium, together with other crops such as cabbages, tea, and arabica coffee. This Thai green curry recipe features tender, thinly-sliced pieces of beef or bison simmered together with eggplant and red pepper. This curry is sumptuous and wonderful on a chilly night. The homemade green curry paste is what makes this dish sing, so don't be tempted to substitute the store-bought variety, especially when it's so easy to make from scratch, and so very flavorful and fresh-tasting. Nam sup น้ำซุป This is a clear broth, usually served together with khao man kai (chicken rice), khao mok (Thai biryani), khao kha mu (pork trotter simmered in soy sauce served with rice), khao na pet (red roast duck on rice), or khao mu daeng (red roast pork on rice). The broth can be made from chicken and/or pork, or it can be wholly vegetarian. The version served with duck is usually made from duck bones. It will often contain sliced hua chai thao (white radish; also known as phak kat hua in Thai) and hua chai po khem (a Chinese ingredient of dried and salted chopped turnip). The kao mun gai features the single best taste on this list: a profound chicken consommé that will solve your sniffles and brighten your Tenderloin walk home. Kinda. The other two dishes to know: five-alarm spiced chicken wings and green curry with rabbit, which proves that rabbit doesn’t taste like chicken (and is also so much better than chicken). Plus, cocktails from the Trick Dog gents (get the Kem Kon). Suspense: 'Til the Day I Die / Statement of Employee Henry Wilson / Three Times Murder

We started with a couple sushi rolls... based on pictures I had seen posted on yelp, I expected better presentation (as most of the sushi dishes had colorful/cut fruit/veggies as garnish and many event had a flower but ours was simply our sushi; no presentation to impress). We had a SPICY TUNA ROLL which surprised me to only include 6 pieces but were good. Also shared a RAINBOW ROLL; the fish tasted very fresh. Even though taste was great and the freshness of the fish was excellent, I thought the rice was a bit loose (but not falling apart). It is served with one or more nam chim (dipping sauces). Wander's First Year

Like most other Asian cuisines, rice is the staple grain of Thai cuisine. According to Thai food expert McDang, rice is the first and most important part of any meal, and the words for rice and food are the same: khao. As in many other rice eating cultures, to say "eat rice" (in Thai "kin khao"; pronounced as "keen cow") means to eat food. Rice is such an integral part of the diet that a common Thai greeting is "kin khao reu yang?" which literally translates as "Have you eaten rice yet?".[31] [check quotation syntax]

Kafae boran กาแฟโบราณ Kafae boran literally translates to "ancient/traditional coffee". It is a strong coffee that is served with sweetened condensed milk, similar in taste to the kopi that is served at kopi tiam (traditional coffee shops) of Malaysia and Singapore. It is usually made with robusta coffee beans, by steeping the grounds inside a brewing "sock".

NYC Thai in Boca - I'll take it! Ordered through Uber Eats tonight, based on the high Yelp reviews (Thanks Fellow Yeplers), order the Coconut Milk Soup, Drunken Noodle, Miso Soup, and Fried Rice. The Thai soup was delicious..great flavor and lots of veggies. The Drunken Noodles were ON POINT..I have never had good drunken noodles outside of Manhattan. These were super flavorful, nice amount of basil..ate the entire plate. Next time, I'll order extra spicy bc I like more than a kick..but overall super good flavor. The miso was good. Fried rice was also excellent, not greasy at all..just lite and pure flavor. We eat out/order in ALOT (like a lot a lot) and this was the most enjoyable meal I've had in a while! I can't wait to try the sushi and order more noodles! Well done, Me-Sen, well done! Simply Thai, Teddington - Gordon Ramsay
Kaeng thepho แกงเทโพ Central One of the dishes mentioned in the poem of King Rama II on Thai dishes, it is a central Thai curry originally made with the fatty belly part of the Pangasius Larnaudii (thae pho; shark catfish) but now more often belly pork is used as is the case with the version shown in the photo. The other main ingredient in this curry is phak bung Chin (Chinese water spinach).
Ahan Isan (Thai: อาหารอีสาน; lit. "Isan food") generally features dishes similar to those found in Laos, as Isan people historically have close ties with Lao culture and speak a language that is generally mutually intelligible with the Lao language. The staple food of Isan is glutinous rice and most of the Isaan food is spicy and cooked with local ingredients found on the farms all through northeastern Thailand. Isaan people primarily get their income from farming. Rice, sugar cane, pineapple, potato, and rubber are all farmed in this region.

A wide range of insects are eaten in Thailand, especially in Isan and in the north. Many markets in Thailand sell deep-fried grasshoppers, crickets (ching rit), bee larvae, silkworm (non mai), ant eggs (khai mot) and termites. The culinary creativity even extends to naming: one tasty larva, which is also known under the name "bamboo worm" (non mai phai, Omphisa fuscidentalis),[74] is colloquially called "express train" (rot duan) due to its appearance.

Made with morsels of meat, red curry paste, smooth coconut milk and topped off with a sprinkling of finely sliced kaffir lime leaves, this rich, aromatic curry always gets those taste buds tingling. At its best when the meat is stunningly tender, it could be likened to a beautiful woman: it's mild, sweet and delicately fragrant. And like all true love affairs, absence makes the heart grow fonder. SanTo's Modern American Buffet & Sushi
